Weeds in the Story
Thank you for your article about the Eagle Rockdale Community Garden & Art Park [re: “Victory Garden,†vol. 5 no. 26]. I’m sure that your readers will appreciate hearing about this latest addition to our community.
However, please know that I was disappointed that the Garden’s primary sponsor and champion, The Eagle Rock Association (TERA) was somehow omitted from the article. This residential association, a leading advocate for smart growth and historic preservation in Northeast L.A. for 20 years, is the Garden’s fiscal agent and has been more instrumental in supporting and funding our project than the groups that you did mention. This garden would not yet exist without their active participation. It’s most troubling to have TERA not receive the credit it so richly deserves, especially since I have served as a board member and the environmental chair for many years. I must also correct a reference to the L.A. Community Garden Council, which you describe as “responsible for founding†the South Central Farm. Please know that the garden you are referring to at 41st and Alameda was actually founded by the L.A. Regional Food Bank. On behalf of TERA and the L.A. Community Garden Council, please know that I would greatly appreciate a clarification of these issues in your next issue.
Sincerely,
Mary Tokita

Satan’s Minions
Excellent article! [re: “Satan Goes to Hollywood,†vol. 5 no. 26] Priests Moore and Saenz are perfect representatives of the Church of Satan; being graceful, intelligent, and amiable. It is wonderful to see their vision come to fruition, and to actually be a part of it! I am greatly anticipating the convergence, and am excited to be encountering such outstanding and capable individuals. Heather and Bryan, my hat goes off to you. See you in a week!
