Top Secret Mike Judge Flick
by Lucinda Michele Knapp

It’s the stealth movie of the year. For some reason Fox Studios has decided to release Mike Judge’s latest film, Idiocracy, with absolutely no publicity. None. You can’t even find the film online unless you search for “Untitled Mike Judge Comedy.†Weird. We only heard about it through word of mouth. But fret not, you champion of the underappreciated! We’ll give you theatre locations here. The plot is classic Judge: 1,000 years in the future, an average Joe (Luke Wilson) wakes up from a top-secret military hibernation to discover a society so dumbed-down that his mediocre intellect far outstrips the brightest dim bulbs our future has to offer. With an aggro President, corrupt military leaders and a nightmarish scenario that’s almost indistinguishable from America’s current state of affairs, this is a political cautionary tale told with Judge’s trademark droll wit—and you may walk out wondering why everyone around you seems like a Pod Person. Worth digging up, even if Fox buried it prematurely.
Here’s where you can find it: ArcLight, Mann Theatres at the Beverly Center, Universal AMC/Loews, AMC Burbank, Mann Culver City.

The film does all the right things: makes fun of pimps and Ebonics, wrestling and porn. It made a total mockery of American society….without telling us who to vote for.
To top it all off: the special effects looked horrible. Whether that was intentional or not I don’t know. But it looked a MILLION times better than the revolving-door superhero CGI circus every summer shoves down our throats.
