Pink Slip Times

Los Angeles civic leaders sent a leader this week to the Tribune Co., Chicago-based owners of the Los Angeles Times, asking that the company cease from making more cuts to the paper’s staff. Twenty L.A. leaders, including former Secretary of State Warren Christopher and labor leader Maria Elena Durazo, signed the letter saying the city needs “more—not less—news coverage” of local politics.

Despite a continued profit of nearly 20 percent, Tribune has hinted that it may enact more budget cuts. In Thursday’s Business section of the Los Angeles Times, the editor-in-chief said he has a difference of opinion with Tribune about what the size of the staff should be. (by Staff)

Bike to Work

Starting Friday, Sept. 15, the “Roll With It” bike-to-work program kicks off in Los Angeles. The free sponsorship program pairs participants with bike coaches—volunteer mentor cyclists—who will assist in planning a route from home to work and will escort beginner cyclists on their first commute.

The program’s kick-off is part of the official Bike-to-Work Day festivities, but will continue enlisting participants after Friday. Those interested can sign-up by email: rollwithitcommittee@gmail.com. (by Staff)
