Holy Crap! You are simply the best free publication out there right now. Your sex columnist, science columnist, and sheer selection of articles on things that actually matter to Angelenos make me proud for this city. You had a great best of L.A. edition, especially compared to what Citybeat put out this year, which turned out to be both boring and ill-conceived. Your editors seem to understand the values and topics that are important to the average person in Los Angeles with a shitty car and about ten bucks in our pocket. For this I thank you.

More Praise for LAA Cover People
I befriended S.A. about 12 years ago [featured in "Blank Verse Generation," vol. 5 no. 29]. He is one of a small number of men I know whose warmth, humor, and openness are lived with a warriors grace. Like all people worth one’s time, he is a paradox. I can give you a good reason to read his work; it is alive. There is a river.

A wonderful article, and while I was at first amazed at the fair and thorough way the art was portrayed, after a while I remembered “Oh, yes, it’s Master K” [featured in "Untying Shibari," vol. 5 no. 11] Though I’ve never met him in person, I’ve interviewed his peers many times and always heard wonderful things about his presence, his skill, and his depth of knowledge. He is a magnificent resource for the history of this art for this article.
I am sorry that “survivor” had such a bad experience; in any group, there are unethical people. It is the mission of people such as Master K, Zamil, Lochai, Tatu, Midori, and my own humble efforts to prevent exactly that sort of exploitatio from happening. Thank you, Lesley, for your clear portrayal of not just the facts but also their effect on you.

In last week’s cover story, “The Browning of the Green Movement,” [vol. 5 no. 42] we translated the name of the organization Mujeres de la Tierra to “Mothers of the Earth” in English. It is in fact, “Women of the Earth.” We regret the error.
